Notes on John Allen Sr.
Several Allens emigrated to Virginia in the 17th century, but to date the parentage of William and John Allen has not been determined.
On pp. 121-123 of King's compilation of THE REGISTER OF OVERWHARTON PARISH it is stated that William Waller (c. 1673-1703), grandson of the 1650 immigrant William Waller, married Elizabeth Allen and that his son George married his cousin Elizabeth
Allen and his other son William married Elizabeth's sister Sarah Allen. Both were daughters of William Allen. These latter marriages are confirmed by William Allen's will. From the above it would appear that the first mentioned Elizabeth Allen may
have been the sister of William and John. This tends to lend credibility to the assumption that William, John and Elizabeth Allen may have
been born in America. It seems improbable that two brothers would be accompanied by a sister when immigrating to Virginia and settling in an area which twenty years later was still an outlying frontier described as follows:

ELK RUN SETTLEMENT - Pushing up the North Branch, soon to be called Hedgeman's River, pioneers established, by 1715, a new community to the west of Brent Town. On the rich low grounds which were described variously in the land grants as the GREAT
NORTH MARSH, the RAPPAHANOCKMARSH and the ELK MARSH, and where once stood the only Manohoac town of which the site is definitely recorded, these adventurers had the honor of being the American Far West as well as the nucleus of Fauquier.
Among proven pioneer residents are the names of William Russell, Mark Hardin, John Brown of Bron's Branch, William Allen, John Marr and John Hopper on Marr's Branch, and Jeffrey Johnson on Johnon's Branch.
Once source posits William's parents as John Allen Sr (b. abt 1645 Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA) and Barbara Withers.
