Notes on John Beaty

According to Burke's Landed Gentry, John Beatty was an immigrant from Ireland. He is possibly Scotch-Irish. There are two factors that lead us to believe he is Scotch-Irish and not Irish. First, we have no evidence that any of the Beaty's were ever part of the Catholic faith. Second, the timing of his immigration was at the beginning of the Scotch-Irish "Great Migration", 1700-1780.

Burke is in error in saying that this John Beaty is the son of John and Susannah (Ashfordby) Beaty. This has been disproved.

Immigration: Probably not long after 1700, he could have been in the earliest wave of the Scotch-Irish "Great Migration". Probably migrated with first wife and some, or all, children. 358
