Notes on Elijah Anderson

Elijah Anderson was in the Culpeper Co. Va. tax roles from 1788 to 1829. In the 1800 list, his sons Joseph & John are listed as well as his son in law Thomas Anderson, as mentioned above. In 1801 another son Cornelius is shown. In 1804 Elijah wed a 2nd or 3rd time to Mary Priet in Culpeper Co. Va. He is on the 1810 census microfilm, but I did't find him listed in the index. He was censused between his sons John and Cornelius who owned property with his wife Elizabeth adjoining his fathers. In the 1820 census, his son Joseph has moved to Flemming Co. Ky. where he was censused. Several family members had previously moved to Garrard Co. Ky. whitch may be the reason Joseph located there. In 1819 Cornelius and Elizabeth sold their property in Culpeper as did their son Ezekial and his wife Margaret and moved to Kentucky. eventually settling in Bath Co. In the 1820 Culpeper Co. Va. Census, Elijah's son John is still near him and another son Payton is now in the census near his father. This family moved between the counties of Fauqier and the part that became Rappahannock Co. as well as Hampshire Co. W. Va. and I suspect had a connection to Louden Co. as well.

At about the same time, 1820, we find some of Elijah's children in Muskingum Co. Ohio. Following is a list of Elijah's family.

Elijah Anderson--born ca. 1745/1755 ?, died 1838, probably Rappahannock Co. Va. asthat was where I located his will. He had most of his children by unknown ist or 2nd wives. There is a rumor one of his wives may have been named Frances?, Or according to info. from a different searcher, Miss Williams, then possibly Frances Williams? anyway his third wife was Mary Priest.who he wed in 1804.

I have information that elijah was in the revolutionary army as a private under Capt Ball's Fauquier county militia under the command of Col. Elias Edmon. This was provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution 196, 196
